Day 45: Exploring Fogo

With the cooler weather, we set out to explore Fogo Island by car today. We first head deeper into Tilting Cove where we are staying at a municipal beach park just outside of town. First stop, a hike to one of five art studio's on the island setup to house artists to create and live in disconnected beautiful landscape. These are modern structures of architecture contrasted in the wilderness of Fogo Island. These studios are out growths of the Fogo Island Inn, a high end destination resort where rooms start at $3000CAN/ day for a ocean view studio to a $9000CAN/ day suite. All inclusive stays include natural locally grown food at three day minimum bookings. After we hike/drive Tilting cove, we head over to Joe Batt's arm for a tour of the Fogo Island Inn. Very modern, all locally sourced material and amenities. Furniture, Quilts, all locally sourced and made. We also visit the town of Fogo, visit local craft and pottery stores, see local arts and crafts. We finish the day with Fish and chips at the Cod Jigger Cafe. We even tasted a traditional Canadian dish, "Poutine", made from french fries, mozzarella cheese, and brown gravey. It was interesting, but don't think I will be a fan. We also visited the local doc and spoke with the fisherman bringing in fresh live lobster at $6 / lb. We even picked up a bag of Snow crab claws for $5 / lb. The cold weather persists, but we are making the best of it, looking forward to a bit warmer weather in the months to come.
