We did the best hike of the week today. It was the Savage Alpine trail that started from Mountain vista trailhead and climbed 1,441 feet over 4 miles with the most spectacular views. It rained on and off the whole hike but was still awesome. We finished the hike at Savage River bridge and got up close to some Ptarmigan birds, a.k.a. chicken type birds that Chicken Alaska was named after because Ptarmigan was too hard to spell or pronounce. And they kinda look like small colorful chickens, and they are the Alaska state bird and we saw a bunch.
