Travel day today, not far, just an hour ride from Talkeetna to K'esugi Ken campground just past the first Denali view south pullout. We of course stop in downtown Talkeetna on the way out for some pastries and a "Rudy-in-a-Wrap" which is a reindeer sausage wrapped in bread like a Kolache, just super sized. We also snag a cinnamon roll and a couple peach and apple pastries for the road. We actually washed a load of towels at the laundromat while we scoped out the pastries. bummed I did not take pics of the roadhouse bakery and goodies, they were awesome.
14 miles out of town is the Birch Syrup Farm, so we just had to stop in there for some samples and goodies. Yoli scored some Raspberry Rhubarb syrup, Toffee, and brittle. We met the new owner and the guys name is Ted Hammers, so we had fun with that (Rusty Nail & Ted Hammers) but that is why I go by Alan, so I avoid the story, but could not resist this one. He gave up being a Lawyer in L.A. and he and his brother bought the farm so to speak. Wait until he spends his first winter in Alaska! Lawyer to Tree tapper. It was overcast so we did not see Denali at the first view point. We made it to the camp ground to get one of the last few sites open. We set up camp and got our first hike in around the park. This park was built in 2017 and quite new. I was actually here in 2018 and it still looked the same. Paved roads and 50amp electric. We thought we were at the Ritz having non stop electric and water. No navy showers tonight!
