Day 73: Fairbanks Power-shop

Today was all about going to Fairbanks Alaska to pickup Christina and Alex from the airport. We slept in until 10am then had coffee before the 2 hour ride to Fairbanks. We left camp in the Jeep for the ride to town. We left early just after noon. First stop was REI and Costco where we did our first power shop. From rain jackets to waterproof hiking boots, and a new Osprey day pack, we give the Credit Card a good workout. We hear thunder outside and it pours down rain while we are in REI which contributed to our extra long shopping marathon. After the big rain storm and working up a good appetite with the power shop, we head over to Fat Burger, only place I have ever seen triple 1/2 lb. patties on one burger. The XXXL 1.5 lb burger! Wow, I only order the single 1/2 lb. burger while Yoli opt'd for the regular 1/3 lb. burger. The 1/2 lb. burgers with one, two, or three patties come on a 5" bun vs. 4" bun on the regular 1/3 lb. burger. With a choice of thick cut or thin cut fries, this place had awesome burgers worthy of a top contender for best burger in Alaska and maybe top 5 all time. Next up, we stop at the park on the Chena river for a quick pic then get our next power shop on at Fred Meyer's. We split up, Yoli takes on home goods and foods, Alan takes on automotive and Garden. We score in the organization sector and auto section with safety triangle, Suction cup mounts, wire brush, Velcro straps, wire wraps, and a new shower head, and air freshener plus more than I can recall or want to. The plastic gets another good workout before we cry uncle and head to the airport as we shut down Fred-Meyer's Grocery store at 11pm. The target flight comes in at 11:40 and is ETA'd at 11:28, and Alaska airlines did not disappoint. Chirs & Alex arrive at the curb 11:40pm 10 hours in route from DFW to FAI via layover in SEA. We have just short 2 hour drive home but they don't think so making it a 12 hour travel day for them, only 4 hours for us plus the power shop. We are all exhausted, we get back to camp at 2am and all are unpacked, in bed, and a sleep by 3am. What a day...
