We got an early start this morning out of Quartz Creek in Cooper landing on the Kenai River. We had a 127 mile ride today and I wanted to get to Homer early enough to get a campsite on the beach. We also had to stop in Soldotna to refuel, dump, and load up on groceries. Yolanda just can't go into a store for a few items. An hour and a half later, we are back on the road heading to the most southern tip of our trip on the Kenai peninsula, Homer Alaska. Homer is the Halibut capital of the the world? U.S.? Alaska? or something like that. We get to the Homer "Spit" a reef like land mass stretching out from the shore with one road down the middle for about 5 miles. Mariner's Park Campground is just a mile in and we do score a beach spot right around 2pm. We unhooked the jeep and went further out the spit to see if some other camps offered something better closer to the harbor and tourist strip with food and gift shops. We decided the beach front was the best 4 miles back as it would make for a nice bike ride to the harbor, gift shops, and restaurants. Dinner and a binge on Netflix and the day is done.
