| Cocoa Peddler on the Beach |
Today was a spectacular day with friends on the beach. As usual, we head to our favorite spot at Ojo's for a day of sun and fun. Unfortunately, it was very windy, in fact, no umbrellas as we head an easterly wind off a low pressure system in the Atlantic. We had sun off and on but was not a perfect day. But hey, the drinks, food, and friends were just the best. We hang at the beach from 11 to 5 with Kim, Craig, Ann, and Julie. Besides the food and drinks from Ojo's we have peanut cookies, massage, and ice cream for peddlers walking the beach. After a day of sun, fun, and wind, we called it a day and planned to all go to "The Goddess" restaurant for the Wednesday special of three chicken wings, cole slaw, and french fies for 120 pesos, thats $2.07 cents after conversion, what a deal, Craig and I have two each. The girls split a mahi mahi dinner, 475 pesos, i.e. $8, we have a couple margaritas, mojitos, and beers and enjoy the ocean view, breeze and local culture. Its dark, about 7pm and we make our way to the car. As I am walking by the car, two motor bikes passing me bump handle bars and go down in the street. Two bikes, and four people spread across the road. Not a pretty sight, one girl was in pain, traffic builds up, we help guide traffic, Julie and Craig attend the hurt girl as comotion builds. The ambulance shows up and loads the girl, but for some reason does not leave. Evidently something is wrong with the ambulance or personell, or whatever, and another ambulance shows up. What a scene, and we are parked behind the ambulance. The crowd finally goes on its way and are able to leave. We head back to the villa after dropping Ann and Julie at their condo up the street. What a day... Not perfect, but certainly exciting. Tomorrow the plan is to head to the Caves in Cabarete, but it looks like rain until noon, so we will see what is next on the agenda in the DR.
