Our first day of pretty much on and off rain all day as a storm is blowing through. We spend most of the day at the pool in and out of cover as the sun, clouds, and rain passed by. We have an awesome brunch at the villa and a few rum punches. Late afternoon when the skies cleared a bit, we made a trek to the beach since our car was in the shop. The rental car developed a loud engine noise which ended up being a new water pump. They had come and retrieved the car at 8:30am. Around 4pm we head to the beach on foot since the car had not returned. We watched the kite surfers take on 25knot winds as the storm was coming in. We decided to head back to the villa to avoid the rain. We did not make it 100 yards when the rain started again. We took shelter in a local food shack that had one table and a bar with a few stools. Tom and Nan have a beer, Yoli and I share a water. We meet a local expat from Quebec CAN and strike up a conversation waiting on the rain to quit. We get a call that the car is on the way, so we take the first opportunity in the slacking rain, to hoof it a quarter mile back to the villa. We get back just in time to get the car. We decide to take another recommendation for dinner and head to Sosua to eat at the Jolly Roger a local dive bar and restaurant on the main drag. We had a few drinks and some good food as the rain comes and goes. We ate salad, wraps, and potato wedges, all good, but pretty much bar food. I google ice cream and find a place just a couple blocks away. We dodge the rain a bit again and make it for some very good ice cream but pretty pricey if you ask me for DR. After ice cream we make the drive back only get a call that we left the gate open. Bummer, as security is an issue at night around here. Luckily all was good and no theft or vandalism, probably cause thugs did not want to be out in the rain. We catch up on email, text, then sit down for an evening of cards. Nan was the STARR tonight, whipped up on all of us. Another fun day but certainly on the R&R side and just enjoying the quite, peace, and warmth of the DR by the pool.
